Everyone in Japan waits with excitement and anticipation for Shincha. Tea shops decorate, festivals are held from small villages to Tokyo, the daily news talks about how many more days until Shincha! Really an EVENT every year. The farmers will tell you the colder the winter the better the Shincha. I am not sure if this is because of having to endure such hardship that the pleasure of fresh tea seems even greater or if in fact the tea plants produce a better leaf after it has been stressed with a hard winter. Either way, 2005 was a very cold year for Japan and our 2006 Shincha is FABULOUS!
